Open Letter to: U Thein Sein Government and Burma’s Army (Myanmar’s Tatmadaw)
Open Letter to: U Thein Sein Government and Burma’s Army (Myanmar’s Tatmadaw), all pro- democracy groups, ethnic armed groups (both ceasefire + semi-ceasefire) all political alliances in exiles towards the genuine and long-lasting peace and reconciliation
Date: 27th March 2012
We the people of Burma have suffered from all kinds of extreme hardships under decades' long political turmoil since the civil war broke out shortly after independence in 1948 due to unresolved political settlement among all parties involved, the ethnic nationalities, and central government / ruling authorities
in Burma.
The political instability and extreme economic hardship have driven us : tens of thousands of people all over Burma out of our lands and become refugees, stateless and exiles, migrants in particular in Burma’s immediate neighboring countries: Thailand, India, Bangladesh and China.
We, the general population of Burma, (both inside and outside) have lost our basic human rights, including social and political rights. Moreover, we are now facing severe hardship to earn a proper living and survive.
We all want to live in peace and make a living freely and decently in our motherland: Burma. We don’t want to be refugees or migrants or exiles in other countries. We like to enjoy all fundamental rights as humans, to lead a meaningful life. We know that our life will not be safe as long as there is no peace in Burma.
Therefore, we call upon U Thein Sein Government and Burma’s Army (Tatmadaw), all pro- democracy groups, resistance ethnic armed groups (both ceasefire + semi-ceasefire) all political alliances in exiles to honestly and sincerely work together towards genuine and long-lasting peace and reconciliation in Burma.
We also urge all governments to assist for genuine political reforms so that all citizens of Burma.
